Materials Separation via the Matrix Method Employing Energy-Discriminating X-ray Detection

The majority of lab-based X-ray sources are polychromatic and not easily tunable, which can make the 3D quantitative analysis multi-component samples challenging. lack effective materials separation when using conventional tube has motivated development a number potential solutions including application dual-energy computed tomography (CT) as well use filters. Here, we demonstrate simultaneous decomposition two low-density via inversion linear attenuation matrices data from energy-discriminating PiXirad detector. A key for this method is soft-tissue differentiation widely used in biological medical imaging. We assess effectiveness approach both simulation experiment noting that none investigated here incorporate any contrast enhancing agents. By exploiting energy discriminating properties detector, narrow bands created resulting multiple quasi-monochromatic images being formed broadband source. Optimization parameters first demonstrated followed by experimental validation phantom test sample 2D small-animal model 3D.
